Tell them who you are and make sure they remember you

When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror? Really looked at yourself. What did you see?

When is the last time you looked at your business in the mirror? What did you see?

When did you seek yourself out on an internet search? Did you type in your name and wait for the world to get back to you. Are you happy with what you found?

Were there others there offering what you offer, only slicker, cheaper or swifter to market than you? Worse, did you not see yourself there at all, and wonder why?

Well, that's what your potential clients see, not what you think they see.

So, you need to tell them who you are.

You need to tell yourself first of all; but once you have your mind set on what it is you do, or are trying to achieve, you are ready to tell others the good news.

If you are confused about your intent you can be sure your audience will not wait around for the confusion to clear. Happier messages abound elsewhere. Attention wanders easily.

In the telling, you should ensure they remember you, no matter what you do in life or in business.

Start off by telling yourself who you are. "I am a writer, painter, consultant, carpenter, childminder…"

Then say what it is you do: "I write books, paint murals, advise, make things of wood, take care of the future leaders of the world…"

Add in what you are currently offering: "I have a new book, new commission, new ways to make your life better, old-style cots for kids to get a better night's sleep, new premises…"

Now try to warp it into a snappy statement of one sentence: I'm Tom the carpenter, I've just introduced a new line of cots for kids."

Leave no doubt in a listener's mind about you. Your effort is wasted if they cannot recall you past your departure in a taxi.

Keep your descriptions tight, offer a business card with your message, so as to leave a physical memento of your message.

Make sure the card includes your website's URL. Make sure the website is up to date with all you want a potential client to know about you and what you can do for them.

Other than that, and failing direct contact between humans, write a basic article about yourself and upload it to your website as soon as you can. Read it as if you were a visitor and see if it makes entire sense to someone who does not know you at all.

Your message is useless if nobody reads it. To succeed you need to tell people that you are open for business.

When you send out a news release to the traditional media, post it on your own website as soon as possible. Your site visitors will read it. A good press release speaks for itself and enhances your standing with all.

You will be noticed and be remembered.

We can help you.
